Therapeutic Yoga
Many people look to developing a yoga practice when they feel stuck or lost in their body, and wish to experience a feeling of coming home within. This feeling of being separated from the physical body can be as a result of subtle life events, sudden trauma or longer term exposure to disassociation e.g. physical or emotional hardship or stress. Long term effects of any of these facets of life can lead to dis-ease of the physical and subtle body. Ultimately leading to lack of awareness in the sufferer, both mental and physical and living with a lack of joy.
As you read this, close your eyes for a moment to take your attention to your physical body and note where you feel tension. Now, uncross your legs, feel the earth under your feet, relax your hands palms facing up in your lap. Take a breath in through the nose and as you exhale slowly (lips gently sealed) allow your shoulders to drop away from your ears and feel a softness across your chest as you slowly broaden across the collar bones. Do this 3 times, making the exhale twice as long as the inhale. Open your eyes again and now note how you feel, has the tension released slightly, is your belly softer and has your face relaxed?
This little exercise has taken a few minutes of your day, but how would your life be if you could live in this feeling?
