Life Transition and Wisdom

This 2 minute reflection captures the profound transformation that often accompanies menopause, shedding light on its deeper, often misunderstood, significance. Rather than viewing menopause solely as an end to fertility, view it as a liberation, a release from the inherent fears tied to the responsibilities of nurturing and creating life. This transition offers the opportunity to focus on subtler, perhaps more spiritual, aspects of existence.

In this phase, as the pressure to perpetuate humanity eases, a new space opens for self-discovery and reconnection with the inner voice that may have been suppressed or overlooked during the years of active caretaking and societal expectations. A much used phrase “recapturing her youth” sees the menopausal woman in a potentially futile role rather than one of emergence and power. This comparison to reconnecting with one's youthful self suggests that this stage is not about losing vitality, but rather about rediscovering an authentic, perhaps unburdened, self that was always present but often hidden beneath layers of duty and fear.

The notion of being seen as "mad old ladies" contrasts sharply with the emerging reality—women stepping into a place of inner assurance and wisdom. This is a beautiful reframe of menopause as a journey toward self-empowerment, where the voices of doubt and fear are replaced by a confident embrace of one’s true nature.

As a reflection, the idea that Mother Gaia (as a representation of Earth or nature) has shifted her focus from creating the universe to sustaining and nurturing what already exists. This perspective highlights the importance of preservation, balance and care for life and our environment. A role which, with a connection to the Devine Feminine, involves cultivating qualities such as compassion, wisdom, patience and stability, allowing space and time for deep reflection and fostering inner and outer balance. Here we can be fully involved with all aspects of life within its natural rhythm, honouring both creation and preservation. Using various modalities for grounding oneself in the present moment while also nurturing the potential for growth and transformation.
